The Resurrection and Life
Jesus says, "I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live even if he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die.”
John 11:25-26
The tomb is empty
Was the tomb empty? The tomb in which the body of the crucified Jesus of Nazareth was laid? Yes, the tomb was empty and the risen Christ appeared to the disciples - so it is reported in the gospels. The resurrection of Christ is the central message of Christianity.
Jesus' death and resurrection are part of our Christian faith. Jesus died for us on the cross. He took upon himself all our guilt, all our sins and suffering. After three days he rose from the dead, showed himself to his disciples and finally ascended into heaven after 40 days. There he is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From dirt he will come to judge and to give us eternal life.
Anyone who has ever despaired of God's hiddenness in the face of injustice and misery knows what a miracle happened here! God shows us in Jesus' resurrection that death and evil do not have the last word. What a great promise!
